Why we’re doing this
We want this room to be accessible to the most ambitious people we can find, and ambition doesn't wait for a salary. Some of the people who'd get the most out of two days here are the ones least able to spend $209 on a ticket, whether that's an undergrad with an idea, a grad student between funding, or someone teaching themselves to build at two in the morning.
So we hold fifty tickets back and price them at roughly what lunch costs. Not as charity, and not as a marketing tactic. We do it because every year someone tells us they started a company off the back of a conversation they had in that room, and more often than not it's someone who walked in early, with no particular reason to be there.
